Paula E. Meyer & Associates represents and advises employers in disputes arising from the employment relationship, including:

EMPLOYMENT LITIGATION

  • Alleged discrimination, harassment, hostile work environment, retaliation, wrongful demotion, discipline and termination, violation of public policy, defamation, breach of contract

  • Alleged violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act, California Family Rights Act, California Pregnancy Disability Leave Act, etc.

  • Wage and hour issues (including prevailing wage and overtime)

  • Employee privacy issues

  • Misappropriation of employer proprietary information/trade  secrets, unfair competition, defamation

  • Conversion (embezzlement)

  • Complaints filed by employees/former employees with the Fair Employment and Housing Commission, California Labor Commissioner, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

To aid employers in avoiding litigation, and minimize exposure when faced with a complaint from an employee or former employee, the firm stresses preventative legal counseling.   For example, the firm assists employers in preparing and updating employee handbooks, application forms, evaluation forms, contracts, confidentiality agreements, non-solicitation agreements, releases, and policies which govern the employment relationship.

  • Federal and California wage and hour requirements (exempt and non-exempt employees, prevailing wage, overtime, vacation, meal and rest periods, alternative workweek schedules, etc.)
